SMSD PERFORMING DANCE TROUPE

The SMSD Performing Dance Troupe is under the direction of Teresa Pearce, Jennifer Tcharikova and Edwina Worley. The SMSD Dance Troupe consists of 70 girels ranging in age from 9 years to 18 years. As part of the dance troupe the girls take three to four technique classes a week, and practice with the Troupe on Saturdays. To perform with the Troupe, a student must pass an audition held in August, be at least 9 years old, with a minimum of 3 years dance experience and maintain weekly attendance in Ballet, Tap & Jazz.

Rehearsals are held on Saturdays. In addition to performing in SMSD recitals, the Troupe holds a spring show and performs in various holiday events, as well as civic, school and community functions throughout the year.

From Troupe Directors Teresa and Jennifer:

The performing troupe year 2009-2010 was a huge sucess and we're looking forward to a new, fantastic year! Over the past year, troupe performed at the Zilker Park's Trail of Lights, Christmas Show at Connally, Great Hills Baptist Church (their Christmas program), half-time at the Torro's of Austin basket ball game, Spring Show at Connally, Recital and Demonstration for SMSD. We have been a busy group of dancers and we only hope to grow our opportunities to perform this year.

In addition to performing, many of our talented troupe dancers went to TATD (Texas Association Teachers of Dance) to extend their knowledge and passion for dance. This year we met in Sugarland, Tx. New this year, prep troupe kids were invited to attend the convention and they just fell in love! One of our favorite memories was watching them hurry to their next class with a smile beaming from ear to ear. Leslie Scott's hip hop routines were out of this world and Rhonda Miller's sassy style kept us all practicing her jazz routines until 11 o'clock at night! Melissa Anderson's ballet technique classes kept our 'back pockets down' and our arms 'reaching for the outer rim of the fish bowl.' Curtis Holbrook held a mock audition for musical theater and a few of our girls made it to the top 20! Way to go!

If you have any questions regarding which time your child should audition please call Miss Teresa or Miss Jennifer. If you have not been dancing this summer and need to brush up on your technique, please attend the Troupe Intensive courses on Aug 10th - 12th. Much of this information will be at registration the first week of August.

To Our Troupe Parents: The 2010-2011 SMSD Performing Troupe is only successful when our parents volunteer. We appreciate your countless hours of volunteer work you have done in the past and will continue to do in the future! As the year begins, please sign up for volunteer opportunties whenever you can. More details to follow at the parent meeting on Aug 18th. Also, do you have a fundraiser idea for troupe? If so, please let us know as soon as possible.
